Feeding Recommendations

Baillie Haylage is professionally analysed to ensure that the nutritional values provided by the haylage are correct.

The feeding recommendations below are based on a typical sample analysis.   Actual analysis information will vary from field to field.

Ryegrass – Medium to high energy with very good palatability – ideal for competition horses

  • Typically 9-12% protein
  • 70-80% dry matter
  • 9-12 MJ/Kg Energy
  • 60-70% Digestible Fibre

Ryegrass + Timothy – Medium energy with improved palatability – suitable for any level or riding horse

  • Typically 6-9% protein
  • 70-80% dry matter
  • 7-10 MJ/Kg Energy
  • 60-65% Digestible Fibre

High Fibre – Medium to low energy with improved palatability – suitable for veterans, natives, riding schools and horses at rest

  • Typically 6-8% protein
  • 70-80% dry matter
  • 6-8 MJ/Kg Energy
  • 55-60% Digestible Fibre

Meadow Grass – Medium to low energy with improved palatability – suitable for veterans, natives, riding schools and horses at rest

  • Typically 6-8% protein
  • 70-80% dry matter
  • 6-7 MJ/Kg Energy
  • 45-60% Digestible Fibre

The average horse (16hh) will eat approximately 8-10kg of haylage per day.

Our larger bale (Large) will last 3 horses up to  a week
Our smaller bale (Medium) will last 2 horses up to a week
Our new small bale (Small) will last 1 horse 2 days
