Storage area stocked up full with haylage in October

October saw another surge in orders after a damp and cool start to the month. Our wonderful team worked hard to turn orders around quickly and we had the full fleet of lorries out daily. This is your first reminder that the Christmas period will soon be up on us, so don't forget to place your order in advance. Our farm and office staff all take a well earnt break over the festive period, but we appreciate your horses don't stop eating so placing your order ahead of time allows us to plan ahead.

Tips for preparing for winter

If you follow us on Facebook, you will have seen we posted 7 tips for preparing your yard for winter.

  1. Stock up - Ensure you have plenty of forage, bedding and feed for the colder months.
  2. Prepare winter stabling - Deep clean stables and get them ready with lots of bedding to keep your horses cosy.
  3. Maintain water supply - Insulate water pipes and taps to stop them freezing up. Ensure you have plenty of water buckets to give fresh, ice free water.
  4. Prepare winter rugs - Get those winter rugs cleaned and repaired before the frosts set in.
  5. Buy salt or grit - have plenty of grit on hand for icy yards and muck heap ramps!
  6. Check lighting - Ensure your yard is well-lit to help you out on those darker days.
  7. Always have spare layers - Last but certainly not least... always make sure you have something dry to change into after battling the elements.

In October the farm team working hard to prepare the land

The final cut may have been completed last month but we are already getting ready for the 2025 crop. The farm team have been out in their tractors preparing the land and beginning to reseed some of the fields for next year's haylage. Did you know, our Traditional Parkland Meadow haylage is the only variety we don't sow seed for as it is 100% natural grasses, made from well-established Lincolnshire parkland. You can read more about all our varieties here.
